For the Sake of the Song & New England to Nashville team up to celebrate the release of Jason Isbell’s new album Something More Than Free with two concerts Oct. 1st and 8th highlighting the songwriter’s impact on both Country and Americana genres.
“Jason Isbell is the best lyric writer of my generation. He lives at a level where even great writers can only visit.” -John Mayer
A rare crossover artist, with both critical acclaim and popular success, he excels in elevating the mundane to the mythic, whether tackling family feuds (“Decoration Day”), modern warfare (“Dress Blues”), or his own struggles with addiction (“Elephant”, “Danko/Manuel”).
In this special two night series we aim to demonstrate Isbell’s wide influence on artists in both the Americana and Country genres. Night 1 will take place at Atwood’s, arguably the capital of the rapidly expanding Cambridge roots/Americana scene while Night 2 will take place at Loretta’s Last Call, the honky tonk deep in the heart of Boston and each night will take a different flavor of Isbell’s songwriting, proving again why his latest album recently hit #1 on the Billboard album charts for Country, Folk, & Rock (simultaneously!)
